By The Will Of God by Pastor Melissa Scott

Open your Bibles to Ephesians 2. Now I know some of you are probably still saying, “What does Deuteronomy 15:15 have to do with Ephesians?  I was a slave out in the world. I was a slave to the world, the flesh and the devil. Dead in trespasses and my sins. Now how could I make this big jump? The people born in that realm of Egypt, in slavery, they were born in bondage, they had nothing to compare it to.

I was born in Adam. I have nothing to compare it to. And you turn around and you say, “The Lord redeemed me.” The Lord redeemed you. It’s too easy – I elected not to start right here because it’s too easy to read this and say, “And you hath He quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins” and say, “Well that only applies to some prostitute and some drug addict and some freak show down the street, but it sure doesn’t apply to me. I’ve been saved and sanctified for thirty years.”

Pastor Melissa Scott continues her teaching and tells us that we’re born in a condition. It is this mindset: we have a culture that has acclimated ourselves to what we want, what serves us, do for me. Me, me, me, me, me.

Why did Paul start with the usual, “Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the will of God”? Why didn’t he just start by saying, “And you hath He quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins”? That’s way better to just start out to just go POOF! Just tell somebody they’re a loser at the beginning. Paul knew. He wasn’t planning some systematic theology.
